Snowing at sea

Why do I never think about the possibility of snow on the ocean???
Now I see why, because it’s too ethereal

1. An interesting idea: while it looks like this above the waves, there’s a thing called “marine snow”- a constant snowfall of particulate down to the depths of the ocean, That looks very similar to this.

Essentially, it looks the same for about 2-3 miles above and below the water in this instance.

2. Snocean.

I just left my husband alone with our two children for sixteen days. I was not worried about anything regarding the house, their food, or their wellbeing. I put all the appointments in the family calendar and my husband checked it and kept them. I literally did not worry about them. I missed them, and I was sad that they missed me, but I didn’t worry about them AT ALL. I need to impress upon you all that I missed their company, but was not worried for their welfare.

I also did no meal prep. I don’t even think I went shopping right before I left.

This is not about apples and oranges. This isn’t even about my husband. This is about the fact that this is apparently WEIRD.

Another mum at my daughter’s school is leaving for ten days. She’s taking her youngest (who is a very small baby) and leaving her husband with their two girls. She has been cooking for days preparing freezer meals. She’s panicking and deputizing her six year old to remind him how to make school lunches. AND I AM APPALLED.

A) He is definitely not helpless. (He’s a doctor or something.) What gendered bullshit. B) THAT LITTLE GIRL IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HER AND HER SISTER’S WELLBEING. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. C) Why is she married to this person and creating children with him if he’s this big of an idiot?

While she was laughingly recounting this, the other mums were nodding and smiling sympathetically, like oh yes, I too have my caveman at home!! Such managing required! I was the only one who was like “Dude, he’ll be fine. Literally. He will be fine.” I said it a lot. She was not convinced. She kept bringing up her older daughter. She’ll be like a little mum!

NO.

NO NO NO NO.

NO.

Straight women, don’t do this shit. It’s gross. Don’t infantilize your husbands and then expect your daughters to pick up the slack. So fucking gross. So. So. GROSS.

The fact that so many adults think a six year old girl is more capable of learning and performing basic domestic tasks than a grown-ass man says it all, really.

This stuff is so toxic and awful. I told a car full of women one time that I refused to be in another relationship until I met a man who was capable of making his own doctors’ appointments and washing the dishes. They told me I was going to die alone.

Fuck this shit. Don’t enable men’s incompetence and label it cute.

Hear me out. I was one of those and I’ll tell you the story.

My mum worked hard because she came from a poor family. She was working when she got pregnant and my dad finally CONVINCED her to stay at home as a housewife. He didn’t let her work anymore outside of the house. It wasn’t my mum’s thing. She wanted to work, she needed to. But apparently my dad needed more to BE IN CONTROL OF HER.

When my mum and dad finally got divorced, every time that me and my little sister went to his house for holiday we had to perform household duties.

I don’t mean help him with the chores. That house was filthy, unwashed clothes everywhere, big amounts of dust (which I’m really allergic to), we had to do the shopping, prepare the meals…etc. He had a maid but he didn’t let her come when his daughters were around…

Otherwise my dad would took us out for lunch AND dinner and the rest of the time just sit on the couch watching TV. Every. Fucking. Day. Also we had to plan one day trips or something to get out of the house.

I was 14 and my sister was 9. My mum insisted on us to go and meet our dad but we DIDN’T WANT TO. This was a thing that destroyed the relationship with my dad.

It’s not ONLY women’s fault. Sometimes men really want a maid or a mother and do everything they can to get one without paying.

Please, be conscious, be brave to step out, be careful. Don’t let them do this to you either.

Responsibilities in a couple are for sharing. Parenthood is for SHARING.

Athena blessed her with the ability to protect herself and men beheaded her for it.

That’s actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadn’t thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!

Athena’s hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a “boys club”, and the true offending party (don’t think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. What’s a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusa’s image was used to signify woman’s shelters and safe houses.

Medusa means “guardian; protectress”, and she was.

holy shit.

Maybe medieval people happened upon a T-Rex fossil and came to a relatively logical conclusion that dragons existed.

I’ve read a couple books on this actually, thats exactly what happened. Also cyclops are from looking at bones from a certain type of baby elephant. The giant note hole and tiny eyes made it look like a single eye.

Yep, can confirm! And what’s even funnier to me is that back in the dark ages, Greek people used to find a lot of prehistoric bear skeletons - and those look exactly like human skeletons, except they’re like eight feet tall or something - so they naturally assumed those were the heroes of legend, and made armour and clothes for them and reburied them with the most splendid and sacred religious ceremonies they could think of? Fast forward five centuries, Athens’ all modern and rational, philosophers and scientists aren’t taking any shit from anyone - but the problem is, people will randomly find graves containing giant-ass warriors, so that’s something that can’t be explained away and yeah, demigods were a thing and yeah, they used to be eight feet tall and sorry I don’t make the rules.

Some scientists suspect that the origin of the cyclops myths came about because of elephant skulls, which are vaguely human in shape but with a honking big hole in the middle for the trunk but easily mistakable for an eye socket without any flesh

imagine living in the middle ages, you’ve never traveled more than a few miles from your village, you don’t know how to read or write, you have no schooling or knowledge of the past, then one day you dig this up. yea, you’re gonna blame dragons.
